MIC (Methionine/Inositol/Choline) Injection FAQ

Methionine, Inositol, and Choline (MIC) are an amino acid and two nutrient compounds sometimes combined in injectable form. MIC injections are compounded by MediVera Compounding Pharmacy™ based on prescriptions from licensed healthcare providers when a commercially manufactured product may not meet a patient’s individual needs. We prepare MIC 15-50-100 mg/mL formulations in accordance with USP guidelines and using high-quality active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) from FDA-registered suppliers.

The ingredients of MIC are available in oral supplement form, but some providers may prescribe compounded MIC injections when they determine that an injectable route is more appropriate for an individual patient’s needs. Injections allow for better absorption compared to oral forms. Your healthcare provider will determine the most appropriate form for your needs.

Compounded MIC may be administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. The dosing schedule is typically once or twice a week, as recommended by your healthcare provider.

Most insurance plans do not cover compounded medications made from bulk drug substances, including compounded MIC. Patients should confirm coverage directly with their insurance provider.

Possible side effects include:

  • Injection site reactions: discomfort, swelling, redness, or nodules
  • Digestive issues: Nausea, diarrhea, upset stomach, or bloating
  • Headache

Contact your healthcare provider if you notice persistent or severe reactions, especially at the injection site.

Store compounded MIC in a refrigerator at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C).

MIC has a beyond-use date of about 30 days from the date it is dispensed. Always check your prescription label for the exact expiration date.

MIC injections use small needles. Most patients experience only mild discomfort at the injection site, but this can vary depending on individual tolerance.

The response to MIC can vary. Your healthcare provider will monitor your progress and make adjustments to your treatment plan as needed.
