Understanding the Difference
Personalized Weight Management Support for Patients and Providers
Weight management is not a one-size-fits-all problem. Patients come to their providers with different needs, histories, and metabolic profiles. MediVera operates as a 503A compounding pharmacy — every formulation is compounded based on a specific prescription for an individual patient, not manufactured for general distribution.
This model exists to serve a distinct purpose: when a commercially available medication does not meet a patient’s clinical needs — whether because of the dose, the delivery format, or a documented clinical requirement determined by the provider — compounding offers a path to a more individualized formulation.
Our team works directly with providers, telehealth platforms, and individual patients to make prescribing and fulfillment as clear and efficient as possible. For providers in Michigan and beyond, MediVera offers a streamlined workflow and same-day order processing on most business days.
MediVera is a PCAB-accredited 503A compounding pharmacy — accreditation held by fewer than 1% of pharmacies in the United States.
Under Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, a licensed pharmacist or physician may compound a drug product for an identified individual patient based on a valid prescription from a licensed practitioner.
- Individual patient prescription — every formulation prepared for a specific patient’s clinical needs.
- Dose customization — access strengths not available in commercially approved products.
- Delivery-format flexibility — injectable, nasal spray, or other prescribed forms.
- Telehealth-platform ready — streamlined fulfillment for telehealth providers nationwide.
- Provider-directed — the provider determines medical necessity and writes the prescription.

Compounded Formulations
How Each Weight Management Compound Works
Weight management compounding at MediVera is built around two primary drug classes, each prepared based on a licensed provider’s prescription for an individual patient. The mechanism of action is attributed to the underlying active pharmaceutical ingredient, not the compounded formulation itself.
GLP-1 Receptor Agonist
Compounded Liraglutide Injection
Subcutaneous injection prepared as a sterile formulation for weight management support
Liraglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. GLP-1 receptor agonists work by mimicking the action of the naturally occurring GLP-1 hormone, released after eating. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, GLP-1 receptor agonists influence appetite regulation and glucose metabolism by binding to GLP-1 receptors in the pancreas, GI tract, and central nervous system.
MediVera’s compounded liraglutide is prepared as a sterile injectable formulation. For injection administration guidance, visit our videos page.
Compounded liraglutide is not FDA-approved. Providers are responsible for determining whether this formulation is clinically appropriate for their patient.
Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone Analog
Sermorelin Nasal Spray
Growth hormone-releasing support for provider-directed weight management protocols
Sermorelin is a synthetic analog of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). It acts on the pituitary gland to stimulate the natural release of growth hormone. In the context of a provider-directed weight management protocol, sermorelin may be considered as a complementary option based on a patient’s specific clinical profile.
As with all compounded medications, sermorelin nasal spray is not FDA-approved. It is prepared based on individual prescriptions from licensed providers.
Additional compounded weight management formulations may also be available. Download the product catalog or contact us directly to discuss clinical fit.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Compounded Weight Management Medications
MediVera currently compounds liraglutide injection (6 mg/mL, 7.5 mL multi-dose vial) and sermorelin nasal spray (100 mcg/0.1 mL) for weight management support, based on individual patient prescriptions. Additional formulations may be available — contact us or download the product catalog to review current options.
No. Compounded liraglutide is not FDA-approved. Compounded medications are prepared by a licensed compounding pharmacy based on an individual patient’s prescription and are not reviewed by the FDA the way commercially manufactured drugs are. FDA-approved liraglutide products exist for specific indications, and those options may be appropriate for certain patients. The decision between a compounded and a commercially available option is a clinical one made by the prescribing provider. For more information, visit the FDA’s drug information page.
Under Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, a licensed pharmacist or physician may compound a drug product for an identified individual patient based on a valid prescription. The provider determines medical necessity and writes the prescription; MediVera prepares the formulation to meet that prescription. The pharmacy does not determine clinical appropriateness — that responsibility rests with the prescribing provider.
That is a clinical determination made by the patient’s healthcare provider. A provider may consider a compounded liraglutide formulation when a patient has a documented clinical need that the commercially available product does not address — for example, a specific dose strength, delivery format, or ingredient formulation. MediVera does not determine candidacy; all prescribing decisions are made by licensed providers.
Providers can submit through our online provider portal, via EMR/e-prescribe, by fax to 866-531-1826 using our patient fax form request letter, or by phone at 877-531-1147. The provider portal is the fastest method, with same-day processing on most business days. New providers are connected with a local representative after registering.
Most weight management compounds are shipped within 48 hours of patient prescription confirmation. After receiving your prescription, our team contacts the patient within 24 hours to confirm order details and shipping information. Timelines may vary based on order volume and patient location. MediVera ships to licensed service areas across the United States.
Yes. All compounded medications from MediVera require a valid prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. They cannot be purchased directly by patients. This requirement exists under both federal law (Section 503A) and state pharmacy regulations. If you do not currently have a prescribing provider, speak with a physician, nurse practitioner, or other licensed prescriber.
Compounded injectable formulations are sterile preparations that require proper storage. In general, multi-dose injectable vials should be stored under refrigeration (typically 36°F–46°F / 2°C–8°C), protected from light, and used within the beyond-use date on the packaging. Follow the specific storage instructions provided with your medication. Our videos page includes administration guidance; for specific questions, contact our pharmacist team at 877-531-1147.
Yes. MediVera recognizes that commercially available, FDA-approved medications may be the most appropriate option for some patients. When a provider determines that a commercially available drug is appropriate, we support that path. The decision between a compounded and a commercial option should be made by the prescribing provider based on the patient’s clinical needs, insurance coverage, and access considerations.
All compounded formulations are prepared in compliance with USP <797> for sterile preparations and USP <795> for non-sterile preparations. Our sterile facility uses ISO 7-certified clean rooms and ISO-5 compliant bench hoods. MediVera has held PCAB accreditation in both sterile and non-sterile compounding since 2014 — held by fewer than 1% of U.S. pharmacies. We invest more than $60,000 per month in third-party testing. Details are on our quality and compliance page.
