Answers About Our Compounding Pharmacy In Tennessee

What is a compounded medication?

The difference between a compounded medication and a regular prescription is where it starts. A regular prescription comes from a manufacturer. Ours starts with individual ingredients our pharmacists put together for one specific patient. Our team is trained to mix, prepare, and package these formulations for providers and patients across Tennessee. Below are four things compounding allows us to do.

  • We produce doses matched to a patient’s exact weight, age, or size. That’s not something off-the-shelf medications do.
  • Two or more medications can go into one dose, which lowers the total number of pills a patient takes daily.
  • A patient who can’t swallow a capsule gets the same medication in a flavored liquid form instead.
  • Known reaction to a dye, preservative, or lactose? We remove it and compound the medication without it.

Every compound is either sterile or non-sterile. Sterile preparations, meaning injectables and eye medications, are made in a contamination-free environment because there’s no margin for error in those delivery routes. Non-sterile preparations like capsules, creams, and ointments carry a lower risk by comparison. What we produce across both is listed below.

  • We regularly prepare topical creams, oral capsules, sublingual troches, injectable solutions, and suppositories.
  • Therapeutic areas include hormone therapy, metabolic support, dermatology, men’s health, women’s health, and longevity.
  • Veterinary compounds include flavored oral suspensions dosed specifically for dogs, cats, and horses.
  • For patients with sensitivities, we formulate without allergens, dyes, preservatives, or lactose, with dosing customized to the prescription.

A regular pharmacy fills from inventory. We fill from individual ingredients. Those are genuinely different things. If a patient’s prescription requires a strength, form, or formulation that no manufacturer produces, a regular pharmacy hits a wall. We don’t, because we prepare the medication ourselves.

  • Pills come in 10mg but the patient needs 6mg? We make 6mg. Exact dose, no rounding.
  • A patient with a known reaction to lactose or red dye gets a version we compound without those specific ingredients.
  • Liquids and dissolving tablets are available for patients who can’t swallow standard oral medications. Not a special request, just part of what we do.

Compounding pharmacies give patients a version of their medication that was made with their specific needs in mind from the start.
