NAD+ FAQ

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a naturally occurring coenzyme found in every cell of the body. It plays an important role in cellular energy production and other biochemical processes. In compounding, NAD+ may be prepared as an injectable formulation when prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider.

NAD+ is available in oral supplement form, but some providers may prescribe compounded NAD+ injections when they determine that an injectable route is more appropriate for an individual patient’s needs. This decision should always be made by a healthcare provider.

Compounded NAD+ may be administered by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection. The dosing schedule is determined by your prescriber. Each vial typically contains multiple doses.

Most insurance plans do not cover compounded medications made from bulk drug substances, including compounded NAD+. Patients should confirm coverage directly with their insurance provider.

Possible side effects include:

  • Injection site discomfort, swelling, or redness
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Fatigue

NAD+ preparations generally have a beyond-use date of about 30 days from the date dispensed.

Small needles are used for administration. Some patients may experience mild discomfort at the injection site, though tolerance varies by individual.

Response to compounded NAD+ varies among patients. Your healthcare provider will monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to therapy.
